Alicia ‘Dying’ To Collaborate with The White Stripes    ·    July 26th, 2007

According to, Alicia Keys is “dying to work” with Detroit-bred rockers Jack and Meg White. “Me and the White Stripes are going to do something crazy,” Keys said. “We tried to work something out for this record (her third studio LP due this fall), but the timing got a little crazy and it didn’t come off. I know we can do something next time around.”

While you imagine the mash-up of Alicia Keys’ waterfall piano loops and the White Stripes’ bayou guitar shreds, add another hard hitting rock act to Keys’ to-do-list: Queens of the Stone Age. “I’m dying to work with Queens of the Stone Age, too,” Keys said. “Both bands have a very simple approach to music, but it has a soul to it that I totally get. If we did something together, it would be incredible.”

Alicia’s Surprise Performance in London    ·    July 26th, 2007

Alicia Keys is readying her third record since the 2002 outstanding Songs In A Minor debut. The album, which sold about 400 million, was one of the biggest debuts by a new artist. A year later The Diary Of Alicia Keys saw an album that was critically and commercially well received. So, here we are in 2007 and AK is back with As I Am, a record that sees the 25 year-old collaborate with long-term partner Kerry ‘Krucial’ Keys, John Mayer and renowned songwriter Linda Perry. Ahead of the album’s October November release, Miss Keys flew into London last night for an album playback and surprise performance at Portman Square’s Home House.

Previewing five new tracks, Alicia shared her excitement with the gathered press, before jumping on the old Joanna and playing the hell out of her new tunes. “Before, I felt the need to prove myself, being young and being a woman. This time I wanted to be free,” she said of new tracks like Superwoman, Thing About Love and Teenage Love Affair. “I went into the studio with no idea what would happen. That created the best music I’ve written in my whole life so far.”

After a ‘rollercoaster’ year, Alicia admitted this album ended up being somewhat of a lifesaver. “If I could tell you about this past year, we’d be here all night,” she laughed. “Trust me, I needed this music more than it needed me. But all that led me to this. I feel it in my bones that this music, this time, it’s all the right path.”

John Talks Alicia    ·    July 20th, 2007

John Mayer, who has worked with Alicia on her upcoming album As I Am, has made a post about their collaboration on his official blog:

Alicia and I finally found the time to finish writing a track for her upcoming album… I have never had a better time collaborating in the studio. The song’s called “Lesson Learned” and I can’t wait for the world to hear it.

This is probably about as obvious as telling you the sky is blue, but Alicia is the most authentic artist of our generation… She’s strong where she needs to be…Not just strong as a woman (there are many strong women out there) but strong as an artist (there are few, regardless of gender). She has the vision DOWN and doesn’t waste time getting there. I collect stickers.
