Alicia Keys

on fire    ·    October 31st, 2004

Alicia,

I want to congratulate and thank you for such an amazing performance in Melbourne on October 23rd it absolutely brought the house down!! There was not a single person in the room that wasn’t completely captivated by your energy and presence on stage, not to mention your killer voice and mesmerizing talent on the piano. Your voice, is unbelievable, your talent and style is even more incredible in person. The atmosphere at the concert was absolutely amazing, I hope you felt it on stage, because everyone was just pumped, it was electric. It was such an intimate performance; it was one of those rare times, that it felt like you were playing for each individual in the crowd. Everyone really felt each word in your songs.

I think part of what is so appealing about you as an artist is your ability not only as a musician to play beautiful music but also, as a songwriter, to convey real messages and stories of meaning through song that people can relate to. All of your songs come from the heart; you’re such a genuine and honest person that your songs have a real ability to connect with people, and speak to their own personal experiences in life.

Your ability to write and connect with people has also shone through your travel articles for the New York Daily. When I read your words, it feels like I’m there with you. You paint such a wonderful picture of each destination, your descriptions of the people, languages, culture, history and collective vibe of each country are so animated that it has given me the inspiration to travel and see the world and learn. Your travel bug must be contagious.

I also really love the fact that you are a young person who really appreciates 60s and 70s music. I am a huge culprit of owning more records that were released before I was born than when I have been alive! I loved it when you broke out into Gloria Gaynor’s “I Never can say goodbye boy” at the concert. You may not remember even singing it, you might have just been in the moment, but everyone loved it. The way you mix contemporary and old skool r&b, soul and classic music in your songs is unbelievable.

Your aspirations and your achievements as a young woman are a huge inspiration for me, not just as an artist but also as a human being. Your positive outlook on life and your attitude to always strive for your personal best, and to continually grow as a person has given a lot of people light.

I wish you all the very best in everything you do,
Good luck for the future, although I know you won’t need it
We can’t wait to see what else you have in store for us, including your new book and promising acting career.

I hope you enjoyed Australia,
Come and visit us again soon

P.S Credit also to your back up singers, they are all amazing. Together you all nearly blew the roof off. Yeah and playing Phil Collin’s “In The air Tonight” was killer, such a good pump up song the whole place was amped.
P.P.S Did you enjoy Australia, and performing in Melbourne?
