Alicia was almost destroyed by her ‘relentless’ drive to succeed - and was only saved by her grandmother’s battle with cancer. Miss Keys spent years neglecting her personal life and her family in a desperate attempt to stay on top of the notoriously tough music industry. But it was only when her paternal grandmother became cripplingly ill with cancer last year (06) that the 27-year-old forced herself to slow down. Speaking of the troubled time, Keys says, “That’s exactly what it was. That’s why I had to totally, completely stop.
