Alicia Keys can understand why she was labelled a lesbian at the beginning of her career – because she was “rough around the ages”.
The singer’s sexuality was the subject of much speculation after the release of her 2001 debut album Songs In A Minor.
Keys is adamant she isn’t gay but realises her appearance and attitude may have led people to draw their own conclusions.
She says: “I was definitely rough around the edges. I look back at certain interviews and I’m like, ‘Damn! Did I have to look that hard? Did I have to do my hair that way?’
“I could see why people couldn’t see the diamond in the rough. I didn’t take it to heart. I know what I am. I know it’s not true.”

So, wait, you are implying that lesbians are “rough around the edges”? You trying to set the queer community back 40 years or something? Hell, even if you aren’t gay (even though I know a girl you hit on), don’t perpetuate these ridiculous stereotypes. And growing up in NYC, going to Columbia, I know you have some queer friends at least. There goes my business and hopefully others’ as well.

Who really gives a crap if you’re gay or straight….pretty irrelevant issue in my opinion. The fact is you are a talented and beautiful woman that ANYONE male or female would have to be blind and deaf not to notice. A gift from God and a true treasure

I just felt I needed to inform Alicia of how empowered her song “Superwoman” is. I am 41 years old and although I took all of my college classes in the traditional fashion, I am finishing my last 11 credits at home, completing my BA. When I feel a little lazy or overwhelmed working at the computer writing, I play your video and it gets me started and back on track.
I want to thank you for your talent and grace. Keep putting out strong powerful images for our girls to look at, they DO notice.
