R&B star Alicia Keys is offering four scholarships to students who need financial help to attend university. The Grammy Award winner is offering $5,000 scholarships to students from four cities in the United States. She explains, “We’re just looking for standout students who are definitely college-bound and need a little bit of help financially to really achieve their dreams.” The four scholarship winners will be selected in Jacksonville, Florida; New Orleans, Louisiana; Atlanta, Georgia; and New York City’s Harlem neighborhood. The Open Doors Scholars Program is part of From The Ground Up, a Jacksonville-based nonprofit organization started by Keys’ road manager, DJ Walton, who went to college in Jacksonville. In return for their scholarships, the students will represent the organization at school appearances and must perform community service each semester. |

Dear Alicia Keys and Company,
I am so proud of your efforts. I have a student who is interested in singing but has no desire for college. I told her about how you are educated and famous- I decided to look up where you wwent to school, and found all of this great information. Even though it does not pertain to students in the Houston area, I believe that this is good work and God will bless you for your work. Sincere thanks, Coach Crawford

One can only live once so I propose to do that which I have planned today. The wisest man is one who turns failure to best account. When the wind blows, go with it as long as you are going in that same direction if not, go against it you will get the strength. At the end of every challenge is a start of something new.
Why America? America has for years given an opportunity for thousands of students worldwide to develop and get the best education. I wanted to take that brave step and be one of those students to get such a platform even though I knew I had limited resources, I used that which I could. It was hard finding sponsorship but I worked through it.
Getting accepted into an American college was a dream come true for me. I knew I had more coming my way but I was ready for battle, at least that’s what I thought. I had secured good sponsorship and managed to raise air funds. I left for America legally, promised myself I would utilize each and every chance I had to be a better person. This was a beginning of a new life, new things and greater opportunities; at least that is what I thought.
I received the best reception ever at the college. During registration week my sponsors dropped out on me. This was the blow I least expected. I tried to contact them and plead with them but they cut me off. I was devastated so I made arrangements to leave the school. My dream had been shuttered into a million pieces that only I, had to pick up.
I am searching for funding so that i can be able to complet my degree, I am an undergraduate and also that I am in my first year of college. I am appealing to the world at large those who can to assist me in any way so I can go back to college. I have tried to get a loan but I need a co-signer so I would appreciate a co-signer willing to help this dream come true.Because this person would have invested in me I will not lte them down I will maintan the grades they require from me.
My total school expenses are tuition $11,703 living expenses $6,266 other $1302 per annum as a resident on campus. These are average expenses which differ with each student for me it is $12,000per annum. At the moment I am tutoring at a local high 1st and 2nd year science and mathematics.I am 21 years old and choice of degree is Medical Technology so I can later take up Cardiovascular Technology as a Postgraduate to become a Cardiovascular Technologist.I am from Africa so I want to build a cardivascular centre in my country and be the frist Female cardivascular technologist here too.
my passion comes from the number of heart related deaths due to lack of funds to go to sister countries for such health care.
I am on an F-1 student visa which has not yet expired and still posses all legal traveling documents all that I require is tuition.
Few will have the greatness to bend history itself; but each of us can work to change a small portion of events, and in the total of all those acts will be written the history of this generation. (Robert F. Kennedy). Please give ear.
Those willing to help can send me an email and I can give them my university information so the funds aresent directly to my university if you do not have resourrces please tell the poeple around you they may be able to help thank you

I am 20 years old and a wife and new mother of one. I attended college for a semester and stopped when my pregnancy took a toll on my classes. I regret quiting school everyday, and because of my debt I can’t get FASFA now. So I would be more than grateful if I could even be considered for this scholarship!!!

Hello, I am a 23 years and the first born of my family. I have been accepted to a nursing school that should start this fall 2008. Any financial assistance will be appreciated for me to finish up
with my program which should last 2yrs. I hope I’m not too late to apply, given the response since April. Lastly, I want to thank Alicia Keys for being a role model with your music, international outreach ministry and your scholarship. Thanks and have a wonderful day.
