Congratulations, Alicia! It sounds like Loreen is jealous :-p

I agree with Loreena. And its not a matter of jealousy, I think that Alicia probably didn’t realize that there are other sororities as well. I wonder what AKA intentions were (maybe because she’s light-skinned with long hair, how superficial) But congratulations to her, if she’s happy I’m happy for her

I am happy for Alicia Keys I am not in a soroity but I know that being an AKA is not all about looks and being light-skinned it is about leadership, community service and scholarship. There persona is jus being really pretty and well groomed, like it is all about them. That is how every strong black woman should think, like it is all about her.. Congratulations Alicia Keys..

MAAAAAAAAAAAAAN, stop with all the hateful comments. Chicks on here talkin all kinds of nonsense about the situation. Shes an HONORARY member ladies. She didnt pledge or down anyone else, can we just congratualate her and keep it moving. What dumb fuck said AKA took her because she is light skinned with long hair? Its not 1908, AKA, ans well as all other Black greek letter orgs has members of all shades. That was very ignorant, and shouldnt be repeated.
Phi-Skee!

I’m a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc, and I send out many congratulations to my Soror Alicia Keys! Honorary membership is the highest level of membership one can attain in Alpha Kappa Alpha
Sorority, Inc. and she attained it because she possess true characteristics of a strong, PROGRESSIVE Black woman who stands for something. AKA does not throw out honorary memberships so to all of you hating who are not Greek, please do like Omar said–congratulate her and move on!

As a matter of fact Loreena and Adole, Alicia keys sought out membership. She stated to Sorors that she has always been interested in Alpha Kappa Alpha. I’m honored she chose my beloved Sorority and that AKA chose her. Skeeeee-wee Soror Alicia Keys.

To my Alpha brothers, I am a LIFE member, Old School pledged, and 20 year active member of Alpha Phi Alpha, Fraternity Inc. Yes, AKAs are our traditional “sisters”, and I shout them out, but don’t get it twisted, real men don’t have “sorors”. And please know your Greek History before you speak: AKAs, Deltas and Ques DO hand out Honorary membership to celebrities as a means to get some shine. It is a highly superficial marketing tool that needs to be abolished. So many truly desrving people are ignored while actors “hot” at that moment are waltzed in. Alphas ceased this practice in the late 60’s, but even prior to then, we only gave the letters to a handful of folks (most notably, Duke Ellington never went to college, Fredrick Douglas who died before 1906, and former VP Hubert Humphrey…yes we have a VP, but it was a scandoulus decision that led to us stopping the Honorary thing).
Making Honorary greeks out of celebrities is disgraceful, and is counterintuitive to the notion that greekdom is an elevated place steeped in academia (with elevated responsibilities to give back). now all you have to do is be a “star” and wht Ques, Deltas or AKAs are all too happy to borrow your hype.
I have nothing against Alicia Keys. But Alicia, Jada and a lot of others should at least be required to hold a bachelors degree before being inducted, just as any other grad chapter inductee would have to be. I was equally appalled when the Delta’s offered membership to Halle Berry, but she cancelled at the last minute.

I agree with Big Brother Justice. Our founders did not go through the struggle just to have a famous actress or musician be handed letters. If you can take a role as a teacher or college grad in a movie, then play the role in real life. Do it right! Get your degree. It will feel a whole lot better when you actually go through the invite process and then the coming out. Afterall, didn’t the original ladies do it. P.S. I’m no hater on Alicia nor Jada, but is this what real sisterhood is about.Giving just to be noticed. I applaud the Alpha’s for abolishing the practice of Honorary Memembership.
