Alicia Keys Goes To The Wall
Grammy award-winning R&B singer/pianist Alicia Keys is set to make history by performing at an international pop music event staged at the Great Wall of China September 25. It’s the first music festival ever held at the spectacular site.
Keys is the first artist to confirm her participation in the Wall of Hope - China 2004 extravaganza. The piano-playing diva is currently touring Europe and will appear in Perugia, Italy at the Umbria Jazz Festival July 15.
Meanwhile, Wall of Hope will be staged at the Great Wall’s “Ju Yong Guan” North Gate in Beijing with a strict invite-only audience of a projected 10,000 lucky guests. Proceeds for the landmark event will benefit the Child Children and Teenagers’ Fund, and will commemorate the 20th anniversary of China’s Great Wall restoration project.
The concert is the first in a series of benefit shows planned for China’s major cities - Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.
Hosts for the show will include televison personality Cynthia Garret (HBO’s Buzz w/Cynthia Garret, and ABC’s Life & Styles), along with urban boy band B2K’s Raz B, who will act as the event’s official youth ambassador. A complete roster of hosts and performers will be announced July 22.
Regular ‘ol fans will be able to see the show on TV; it will be taped for international broadcast.
