As a performer at tomorrow’s MTV Video Music Awards, Alicia Keys was asked the inevitable question: How do you think Britney Spears is going to do? Britney, who has had a fair share of public battles the last few months, will be opening the big show in Vegas, and Keys had the following to say about the troubled singer; “I think that Britney is going to do fantastic. I think she knows who she wants to be, and she’s ready to do it now,” Alicia said.

John Mayer couldn’t say enough about the fun he had working with Alicia Keys on her upcoming album As I Am, which is out in November.
Mayer got all soppy in a recent blog on his website. “We wrote a song called ‘Lesson Learned’, and it was one of the best creative experiences I’ve ever had,” John wrote. “Oh, and her lead-off single ‘No One’ is the track of the year. That’s all there is to it. It’ll blow you away when you hear it. She’s evolved so much as an artist, it’s crazy! She’s made one beautiful and brave album. Okay, okay! That’s enough slobbering over Alicia!” he gushed.
The tragic death of a close friend forced Alicia Keys to stop acting like a performance diva. Keys admits she started taking her family and friends for granted as her famous life and studio and touring work took over - and then a tragedy made her rethink.
Keys tells Rolling Stone magazine, “Maybe God knew I needed an extreme situation to help me understand what’s real. “Everytime I’d wake up, I’d get dressed and put on my little facade, like, ‘Everything’s great. I’ve got these shows going on, I just finished this film.’ (There were) all these f**king interview answers to the point where I’d give interview answers to my family.”
Alicia Keys jetted off to Egypt in a bid to find inspiration after she struggled with “confusing music” as she set about recording her new album. Alicia admits she was struggling to find her past form that earned her Grammy Awards and acclaim and decided she needed to take a holiday.
She traveled alone through Egypt, floating down the Nile and visiting ancient sites, like the Great Pyramid of Giza, just outside Cairo. She says, “I’m thinking, `Here is this structure that’s been standing for thousands of years, no magic tricks, no cranes, just mind, will and hands. “I had a profound realization that with my mind and my hands I could create something that could last forever.”
Alicia Keys is surprised that her teenage romance made national headlines in the US after actress Clare Danes said they dated the same guy on TV.
Danes said that she and Keys dated Billy Cherry in high school and that Keys is still in touch with her childhood sweetheart. And Keys later said that the fuss over what Danes said is unwarranted.
Contactmusic.com quoted Keys as saying: ‘I can’t believe this… Clare Danes and I went to school together in junior high… and that’s how I know her, and there was this guy there, named Billy.
‘He was a really nice guy and I actually still know him now. I think at some point, somewhere, she may have kind of either liked him or went out with him and at some point I kind of liked him and went out with him, so I think that connected us in some way. But I can’t believe that’s a big national story right now. Billy, you did it!’
